Perhaps you're working on your 10th novel. We don't care if you just started writing or just finished the thing, we want your first page! This January the Durango Public Library is running the Fourth Annual Page One Contest. Winners receive a $100 Maria's gift certificate and their work aired on the Page One radio program. The winning pages will be selected by mid-February and will be aired on KSUT & KDUR in March 2026. Contest rules are as follows: "One page" means approx. 300 - 500 words, typed. Submissions must be original works by locals only. Fiction, poetry, non-fiction, young adult, and children's genres are all welcome. This contest is for writers ages 14 and older. All submissions must include a title. Submissions can be emailed to spenser.snarr@durangoco.gov or dropped off at Durango Public Library between January 1-January 31.

Outreach, cmscott@fortlewis.edu / 970-247-7333 The Center of Southwest Studies (Center) at Fort Lewis College (FLC) is pleased to present Constellations of Place, a major exhibition rooted in the landscapes and layered histories of Southwest Colorado. Guest curated by scholar, writer, and independent curator, Dr. Meranda Roberts (Yerington Paiute, Chicana), Constellations of Place will feature a selection of over 60 textiles, pottery, beadwork, 2D works, and mixed media pieces from the Center’s permanent collections alongside the work of 13 invited contemporary Native American, Indigenous, and Latinx artists. This exhibition is a collaborative project between the Center of Southwest Studies, Department of Reconciliation, and Four Corners Bridging Institute at Fort Lewis College, and the result of over a year of planning, listening sessions, and research. Constellations of Place is made possible with generous support from the Belonging Colorado initiative of The Denver Foundation and the Greater Good Science Center and is in partnership with the America 250-Colorado 150 Southwest regional “Power of Place” initiative.  Blue Rain Gallery joins the Snowdown festivities with a fast, fun, and uniquely Colorado art challenge! Local artists, doodlers, and creatives of all skill levels are invited to stop by anytime between 12–6pm and create their best Colorado-inspired landscape—in just 10 minutes. From rugged mountains and winding rivers to whimsical scenes, let your imagination run wild. All supplies are provided, though participants are welcome to bring their favorite sketch tools if they prefer. Each completed sketch will be displayed in the gallery from January 25th - February 1st, and visitors will vote for their favorite. Winners will be announced on Saturday, January 31st. The grand prize winner will receive a bag of swag from the Blue Rain Print Shop, packed with artsy treasures. All ages are welcome, and participation is free.
