Power of Place: Exploring the History and Culture of Southwest Colorado Tuesday, March 10, 6-7:30pm Join us for a deeper dive into some of the topics in the "Power of Place: Colorado 150 Southwest" commemorative magazine.  Join us to explore more about Southwest Colorado’s history and heritages with five longtime local authors. Our panelists for the event include: Charles DiFerdinando of the Animas Museum, Native historian Johnny Valdez, Jeff Johnson of the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, Peggy Montaño, author of “Hispano and Basque Sheepherders," and FLC professor Andrew Gulliford. The San Juan Basin Archaeological Society invites the public to a presentation in the Lyceum at the Center of Southwest Studies and on Zoom on Wednesday, March 11th at 7:00 pm. At 6:30 we will have social time in the CSWS foyer. Then after a brief business meeting, Daniel Hampson, FLC alumnus and staff member at Crow Canyon Archaeological Center, will present “Hidden on the Surface: Preliminary Findings from an Ongoing Review of Southwest LiDAR Data“. In honor of Women's History Month as well as the 120th anniversary of the Antiquities Act and the creation of Mesa Verde National Park, join us on Saturday, March 14th at 1pm either at the Animas Museum (3065 W, 2nd Ave.) live or on Zoom for a talk about the "Architects of Preservation: The Women Behind Mesa Verde and the Antiquities Act." Visit With Respect Ambassador Training Bears Ears Partnership will host a FREE Visit With Respect Ambassador training event on Saturday, March 21st from 8:30am until 4:30pm at 567 West Main Street, Bluff, Utah. The event will be held at the Bears Ears Education Center. This one-day training course will allow attendees to practice the skills needed to be one of the on-the-ground Visit with Respect Ambassadors where they will serve as a friendly presence at the most frequently visited trails in the Bears Ears region. The Durango Arts Center presents youth theater camps for children in kindergarten through second grade, Thursdays from 4-5 pm, March 26 - May 14. Students will learn character creation, imaginative storytelling, music, and movement. The camp is $175 with full and half scholarships available. Register online at www.durangoarts.org
