The Animas Valley Grange is starting a local club to study “bugs” on Saturday, June 7, 1-3 pm. The purpose of the club is to encourage curiosity and learning about insects and other arthropods in our local environment. We will use non-lethal capture and observation techniques to study insects and other arthropods, eventually learning how to tell beneficial insects from pests and the habitats they favor. We will also use a selected phone app to photograph, record and identify insects. The Bug Club is free and open to all. Children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult. We have a few experts to help us, but we will all be learning together. Attendees will define the club focus and schedule for later meetings. Please join us for the initial meeting at the Animas Valley Grange at 7271 County Road 203, about 1 mile north of Durango Hot Springs. Closed shoes and appropriate outdoor clothing are recommended. Contact Deb at Deborah.paulson@gmail.com or 970-317-8162 with any questions.

Climate Cafés are a space to share thoughts and feelings about the climate crisis in community. Climate Cafes are not action oriented; they're not about shifting the outcome or figuring out what to "do." Rather, they're an opportunity to build an ecosystem of community, to cultivate resilience, and to continue to meet the unknown future from a place of connection - to self, community, and earth. All are welcome. Program leader Hannah Smith holds a Masters in Social Work as well as an Advanced Certificate in Ecotherapy. Learn more about Climate Cafes at www.climate.cafe.
