4 the Children 4 the Children, a non-profit organization based in Durango, is looking for dedicated community volunteers to assist with its mission: to support children in Southwest Colorado who have experienced abuse, neglect, and family-related trauma, and to protect childhood today for stronger families tomorrow. Volunteers are needed in two program areas at 4 the Children. Volunteers in the Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) program advocate through the family court for the best interests of abused and neglected children. CASA volunteers advocate for safe and permanent homes and serve as the voice of a child or sibling group in the court system. These volunteers build positive relationships with their assigned children, respect the confidentiality of the court process, and assist family court judges in making informed decisions about the children. CASA volunteers are needed now for children in La Plata County and Montezuma County. Volunteers in the Supervised Exchange and Parenting Time (SEPT) program assist in providing a nurturing and safe environment for children and parents to do supervised visitation or exchanges. SEPT volunteers supervise parenting time and provide a safe place for children and their non-custodial parent to visit. Through safe exchanges, SEPT volunteers provide a safe place for children to transition between parents and homes to reduce high-conflict interactions. Supervised visits and exchanges occur at the 4 The Children office in Durango. If you are interested in volunteering, making a donation, or just learning more, please visit our website at 4thechild.org or call us at (970) 259-0310.
