What the River Knows: Glen Canyon Documentary at Durango Arts Center Description: Glen Canyon Institute, in collaboration with Crow Canyon Archaeological Center, presents What the River Knows, a Good Intentions Paving Co. documentary exploring the reemergence of Glen Canyon from the receding waters of Lake Powell reservoir. As the West faces the urgent need to redesign water management, we are offered the chance to restore one of the planet’s most stunning landscapes. What the River Knows explores this unique reflection point in a centuries-long history, weaving together past and present to reveal a new way forward for the Colorado River. The evening will open with Glen Canyon Rises, a documentary short from Crow Canyon Archeological Center featuring Hopi archaeologist Lyle Balenquah and author Craig Childs. This powerful visual and narrative experience reveals layers of human history embedded in the landscape. As water levels fall, generations of cultural footprints are revealed, and dormant ecological systems begin to stir once more. Following the film screening, the event will conclude with a panel discussion featuring: - Lorelei Cloud (three-term Southern Ute Tribal Council leader, Colorado Water Conservation Board member, co-founder of The Indigenous Women’s Leadership Network) - Teal Lehto (water rights activist, river conservation content creator @we) - Daryl Vigil (Co-Director of the Water & Tribes Initiative Audience Q+A to follow. Stories Over Stigma Stories Over Stigma is a project designed to deepen understanding of substance use and the personal, social, and systemic factors that shape it. The project examines how stigma impacts people who use substances, particularly their ability to access support and services. It also offers practical tools and resources to help community members, professionals, and caregivers care for themselves while supporting others. Participants will hear a powerful personal story of recovery that highlights lived experience and the journey toward change, helping to humanize substance use and challenge common misconceptions. The purpose of this event is to increase knowledge, encourage reflection on personal stigma, and promote compassionate, informed perspectives. By reframing how we think and talk about substance use, Stories Over Stigma aims to foster empathy, reduce harm, and strengthen community connections. Visit With Respect Ambassador Training Bears Ears Partnership will host a FREE Visit With Respect Ambassador training event on Saturday, March 21st from 8:30am until 4:30pm at 567 West Main Street, Bluff, Utah. The event will be held at the Bears Ears Education Center. This one-day training course will allow attendees to practice the skills needed to be one of the on-the-ground Visit with Respect Ambassadors where they will serve as a friendly presence at the most frequently visited trails in the Bears Ears region.
