Light Over Shadows Day will take place on May 9th from 12:00-3:00pm at Rotary Park in Durango. This free community event is designed to reduce stigma surrounding mental health and substance use while fostering connection, awareness, and support. We'll kick off the day at 12pm with a Mental Health Awareness Walk. Around 1:30pm, community members will share their powerful personal stories related to mental health and substance use. Throughout the event, local organizations will be tabling to provide information and connect attendees with resources available in our community. Silent Sundays with Swanson May 10th, 2026 Silent Sundays with Swanson continue at the Durango Arts Center, on Mother’s Day at 2 pm, Sunday May 10th, 2026. Short silent films will be accompanied by live music with pianist Adam Swanson. The films are by Charlie Chaplin and Laurel and Hardy, plus a thrilling railroad-themed movie. No experience is necessary and all beverages and supplies are provided. Artist Mike Scieszka will guide you into making a whimsical, colorful, and eye-catching loverbirds painting. Perennial Plant Sale by the Durango Garden Club -The Garden Club of Durango will host their annual plant sale on Saturday, May 16th from 9am - 10:30 am, rain or shine, at the La Plata County Fairgrounds, 2500 Main Ave. Come early for the best selection. Cash, check or credit card. Plants are from local and member gardens. A large selection of irises, labeled by color, will be available.
