The Animas Valley Grange will host a presentation on “Let’s Get Started-Family History Research” at 6:30 pm, Feb 16, 2026. Sam Foster & Rita Placek, SW CO Genealogical Society, will help you learn about how to begin researching your own family history. They will provide useful information about taking the first steps and how to get organized. You will receive helpful tools and ideas for building research; expanding your research skills; sharing your family history results. Please join us. Bring your own paper and pencil or pen. Other handouts will be provided. The session will last an hour, and it will be followed with time for questions. This event will be held at the Animas Valley Grange Hall, 7271 County Road 203. The Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College, in collaboration with Fort Lewis College Theatre, presents The Survivors’ Way, a multievent experience anchored by an immersive live digital performance created by Fort Lewis College alumnus Alex Oliszewski. A storyteller, co– media designer, and Associate Professor of Media Design at Ohio State University, Oliszewski serves as the project’s vision keeper, bringing together personal narrative and innovative media design to shape this powerful exploration of resilience, memory, and healing.

Please join the Durango Running Club for the inaugural Earth Day 5K! The race will be on 04/18/26 at 8:30 AM at Rotary Park in Durango. Runners and walkers will go north on the Animas River Trail from Rotary Park, and will run or walk 1.55 miles north to just before 32nd Street. Participants will then turn around and finish at Rotary park for a total of 3.1 miles. Please note this will be a Zero Waste event. Participants are encouraged to carry their own water. 

This event is a fun run/walk format, and there will be no chip timing or prizes.

All proceeds from the race will go to benefit Compañeros. As the only organization in our region with its primary focus on serving immigrants, Compañeros offers unique and crucial services to our community. We will look to wrap the race up by 9:30 AM. After the race, stay in town for Durango's Earth Day Celebration. Events include a parade at 10:30 AM from College to Buckley Park, as well as a festival in Buckley Park from 11 AM to 3 PM. 

April is usually a beautiful time in Durango, and we cannot wait to see you all at Rotary Park on 04/18!
