Emptiness: A Nonresidential Weekend Retreat with nico hase & Tatsudo Nicole Baden Roshi -Things feel solid. The self feels solid, the moment feels solid, the trouble we're in feels most solid of all. And yet, upon inspection, experience keeps refusing to hold still. This is what the Buddha pointed to when he taught emptiness: the discovery that what seems fixed is being quietly assembled, moment after moment.  This is a mostly-silent weekend of meditation, lightly guided, with short talks and conversation to open and close each day, and time in between to let the body and breath show us what's here when we stop insisting on solidity.  nico hase comes to this from the early Buddhist tradition; Tasudo Nicole Baden Roshi teaches in the Zen tradition. Two lineages, two ways of pointing to emptiness. No prior meditation experience required. The Durango Arts Center presents, Kate McLachlan and her Funny Friends, at 7 pm, Friday October 9, 2026. Durango-born McLachlan has been on the comedy circuit in Denver and beyond for many years. 100 Years of Highway 550 Talk Saturday, October 10, 1pm-2pm. Come to the Animas Museum to celebrate 100 years of the US Highway System by listening to a talk from Mick Souder, a “roadgeek” who has been studying the development of the national highway system since he was 7 years old. Mick will review how the US highway system developed in the 1920s, focusing on US 550 and its evolution from Otto Mears’ scary toll road to the scenic (and a little scary) wonder it is today.
