BEGINNING MARCH 6^TH, THE CENTER OF SOUTHWEST STUDIES WILL FEATURE AN EXHIBIT TITLED “A LEGACY OF GIFTS: 60 YEARS OF THE CENTER OF SOUTHWEST STUDIES.” THIS EXHIBIT WILL RUN THROUGH NOVEMBER.

THE OPENING RECEPTION FOR THIS EXHIBIT WILL TAKE PLACE ON THURSDAY MARCH 6^TH AT 4:30 P.M. and will feature artwork, arhives and other items donated to the center over the last six decades.

4 the Children 4 the Children, a non-profit organization based in Durango, is looking for dedicated community volunteers to assist with its mission: to support children in Southwest Colorado who have experienced abuse, neglect, and family-related trauma, and to protect childhood today for stronger families tomorrow. Volunteers are needed in two program areas at 4 the Children. Volunteers in the Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) program advocate through the family court for the best interests of abused and neglected children. CASA volunteers advocate for safe and permanent homes and serve as the voice of a child or sibling group in the court system. These volunteers build positive relationships with their assigned children, respect the confidentiality of the court process, and assist family court judges in making informed decisions about the children. CASA volunteers are needed now for children in La Plata County and Montezuma County. Volunteers in the Supervised Exchange and Parenting Time (SEPT) program assist in providing a nurturing and safe environment for children and parents to do supervised visitation or exchanges. SEPT volunteers supervise parenting time and provide a safe place for children and their non-custodial parent to visit. Through safe exchanges, SEPT volunteers provide a safe place for children to transition between parents and homes to reduce high-conflict interactions. Supervised visits and exchanges occur at the 4 The Children office in Durango. Non-Traditional Book Club: Spooky Stories Join us at Bread Downtown for a "nontraditional" book club, where the discussion is based on a genre/topic rather than a specific book. There's no required reading for these "nontraditional" book clubs, just a topic/genre to discuss and plenty of delicious snacks to enjoy! This month we'll be chatting about scary, frightful, and creepy books in celebration of spooky season. PRE-REGISTRATION REQUIRED

The American Indian Boarding School Research Project at History Colorado invites survivors, descendants, and families with connections to Federal Indian Boarding Schools to Community Listening Sessions in Durango.
