BEGINNING MARCH 6TH, THE CENTER OF SOUTHWEST STUDIES WILL FEATURE AN EXHIBIT TITLED “A LEGACY OF GIFTS: 60 YEARS OF THE CENTER OF SOUTHWEST STUDIES.” THIS EXHIBIT WILL RUN THROUGH NOVEMBER.

THE OPENING RECEPTION FOR THIS EXHIBIT WILL TAKE PLACE ON THURSDAY MARCH 6TH AT 4:30 P.M. and will feature artwork, arhives and other items donated to the center over the last six decades.

The Animas Valley Grange will host a workshop on “Abstract Plein Air Painting” on Monday, June 30, 10 am to 2 pm. Join local artist, Ann Bauer, for a hands-on introduction to a non-traditional approach to painting landscapes. All ages welcome. This event will be held at the Animas Valley Grange Hall, 7271 County Road 203. Bring sketchbook, 1” brush & one smaller, one sheet 10x14 watercolor paper and tubes of red, yellow, blue, white & black paint. The program is free and open to the public. This event on the banks of the Animas River features eggs, pancakes, green chili eggs, sausage gravy and biscuits, sausage links, real OJ, and local coffee. Proceeds benefit Rotary Club projects and local nonprofits meeting local needs. Tickets purchased by July 1: Adults $15, Youth 7 to 12 just $8. San Juan Basin Archaeological Society free event. The San Juan Basin Archaeological Society invites the public to a presentation in the Lyceum at the Center of Southwest Studies and on Zoom on Wednesday, July 9th at 7:00 pm. At 6:30 we will have social time in the CSWS foyer. 5RTU is pleased to partner with iFishiBelong and Colorado Women Flyfishers for a DIY weekend of fishing fun around Durango. This is an all inclusive event and all are invited! We will be based at Chris Park Group Campground, near Haviland Lake, 20 minutes north of Durango. So far, we have participants coming from New Mexico, Colorado, Washington State and even DC! Total Archery Challenge at Purgatory Resort Description: Total Archery Challenge, one of the top outdoor archery events in the U.S., is coming to Purgatory Resort in Durango, Colorado! From July 11–13, archers of all levels can take on 150+ life-sized 3D targets across multiple scenic mountain courses, including steep-angle and long-distance shots. Enjoy novelty shots with chances to win prizes (including a truck!), a kids’ range with dinosaur and zombie targets, outdoor gear vendors, food, and family fun. The Mancos Creative District presents the day-long Mesa Verde Literary Festival on Saturday, July 12 beginning at 9 AM with 50 authors from around the country discussing their books and writing in 14 venues in downtown Mancos. The day includes panels, individual author presentations, a pop-up bookstore carrying the books of all visiting authors, two keynote addresses, and two youth workshops. The day is free.
