Common Reading Experience
Each fall KDUR's airs a
program in conjunction with Fort Lewis College's
Common Reading
Experience. Each year, the campus Reading Board selects a book
to be read by the freshmen class. The book is given to every
incoming freshman at Orientation. The CRE book is assigned in
several freshmen classes and it forms the basis for many
co-curricular events to be held throughout the fall semester.
Additionally, upper division students are encouraged to read the
book and join the conversations about the ideas in the book, both in
and out of the classroom.
This common reading experience
helps connect freshmen to faculty, staff, and other students by
providing opportunities to share an intellectual experience through
the free exchange of ideas, a hallmark of a liberal arts college.
The book for 2009 is
Beast in the Garden by David Baron. Making A Difference is
a 30 minute radio program exploring themes related to the selected book.
