Jinah China is the creative enterprise of two artists, Micah Bell and Jonah Skurky-Thomas. The collaboration began in 2007 when the pair met as students at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. At the time, Jonah's emphasis was in film and Micah's was in photography. It wasn't until they enrolled in a slip casting class together, that they began working in clay exclusively. After spending many months refining their technique and developing a distinct style, they decided to brand the partnership. Jonah and Micah merged their names to create Jinah, their singular artistic identity. Their line of ceramics, Jinah China, melds utilitarian porcelain forms with bizarre contemporary imagery. After graduating, Jinah moved to Durango, Colorado where they work out of newly renovated studio on 9th Avenue.
